Clerk and Recorder closed Aug 26th-27th

The Clerk and Recorder’s office will close at noon on August 26th and all day August 27th for training. This closure includes all services for this office: motor vehicle, recording, elections, marriage licenses, and the Drivers License office.

Drivers License office closed Aug 5 – Aug 12, 2024

The Baca County Drivers License office will be closed August 5 through August 12, 2024. Customers can go to the Lamar Drivers License if they need assistance that week. The Clerk and Recorder’s office (this includes all services for motor vehicle, recording, elections and marriage licenses) and the Drivers License office will be closed for Baca County at noon on August 26th and all day August 27th for training.

Our History

Baca County was formed in 1887 when the Colorado Legislature split off the eastern portion of Las Animas County to create the new County. The 1880’s saw rapid population growth in the area that became Baca County and the creation of thirteen towns. Prior to the 1880’s there was little activity in the County other than along the Cutoff Branch of the Santa Fe Trail that crosses the extreme southeastern corner of the County. Baca County is and always has been highly dependent on agriculture.
